Labor Day is the Perfect Time for One Last Summer Getaway

As another summer draws to a close, you may feel bummed to say goodbye to lazy days and warm evenings.

It’s hard for everyone!

A last-minute, end-of-summer, last-hurrah Labor Day trip may be just what the doctor ordered.

Here are some fun ideas – big and small – to end your summer with a bang.

New York City

Yes, we’re starting off big with the Big Apple!

It’s an ambitious trip, but full of fun and excitement.

There’s something for everyone!

You’ve got history, museums, shopping, food, and the theater, all rolled into one fabulous city.

Family camping trip

At the very opposite end of the spectrum is camping!

It’s a much more budget-friendly option, too!

Whether you stay close to home or travel a bit, find a campground in an area with the activities you and your family enjoy, like swimming, kayaking, or hiking.

Family bonding at its finest!

Amusement Parks

If you’re a family of coaster-lovers, this one’s a no-brainer.

Back-to-school time is the perfect time to let the kids blow off some steam by hurtling around curves at breakneck speed and plunging down ridiculously steep hills.

To really make a trip of it, plan to stay a night or two and spend several days at the park. You may even find some end-of-summer deals!

Chicago

If you like the idea of city life, Chicago may be the answer.

The Lincoln Park Zoo, Navy Pier, and deep-dish pizza are enough for a good time, but there’s much more to see and do in the Windy City!

Take a day trip

If you don’t have the time or budget for a bigger trip, pretend to be a tourist in your own area!

Do a little research into fun activities that are within an hour or two of your house and explore!

You may find some hidden gems in your own backyard.

Tubing and jet skiing

If you’re a family who loves to play in the water, consider renting some jet skis and tubes and spend the long weekend cruising around.

If jet skis aren’t your thing, floating lazily down the nearest river. Many canoe liveries will rent tubes, as well.

Give back

Have you ever thought about taking on a service project with the whole family?

Look for volunteer opportunities in your area. Any organization would probably love to have a family pitch in for a weekend.

Get your vehicle ready

Wherever your Labor Day travels take you, it’s a good idea to get your vehicle serviced before you head out!

It would put the kibosh on the fun if your car breaks down halfway to the amusement park!

Have your trusted mechanic inspect your tires, check the oil and other fluids, and make sure your battery is in good shape for a trip.
